We recently caught up with Hive Haven cofounder, Ann Ross to reflect on her experience at Startup Weekend Sunshine Coast and the impact the experience has had on her since in growing her business.
What year did you participate?
2014 – I was a USC Ent student and it was mandatory. I pitched honey and I couldn’t raise a team. I joined the ‘My Perfect Match’ team and we got runners up in one of the categories.
How did you grow over the weekend?
It was an intense weekend. We formed, stormed and normed till a inch of our lives. We learnt the basics of taking an idea to market. We completed surveys, prototyped, prepared a business model/budget and customer profile etc. The team was constantly challenged by time restrictions but we managed to deliver a presentation etc
What impact has the weekend had for you since?
Startup weekend was held at the IC which was a good fit. A lot of the IC mentors etc helped out who I still know today
What would you say to someone thinking of registering for startup weekend SC 2019?
A great environment to test yourself and startup idea. What you learn is more important than the ‘startup’ you will create!
